Why Buddhism?

Postby Gotami on 08 Jul 2009 10:14

From my personal journey... I am new to UU organization, yet, in my search, I have always (unknowingly) followed the UU model. Believing there is some order in the universe, it made sense to me that all inspired teachings/traditions contain a hint of truth. As I could not relate to any individual one, the search led me to the Buddhist Theravada tradition. Following some readings, discursive and placement (Vipassana)meditation, and personal experience, I recognized many commonalities with other, including theistic, traditions. Although those commonalities are hidden in a different use of language, official theologies, and a level of understanding, it was liberating to recognize what I suspected to be true.
It is with a great joy I am becoming aquiented (spel?) with the UU community. It is a community which cread I would place in the cathegory of utopia... a community of people who come together as people first, with their beliefs as secondary.
As Buddha's teaching gave me a tool to understanding traditions started by other masters/buddhas, this is a perspective I choose to use.
