英國無神論學會早前提出，政治應停止以公帑支付院牧經費。
該會發表研究報告指面對資源緊縮的醫療服務，每年其實就院牧服務支付超過四千萬英磅：認為這是使人震驚的數字。該會行政主任活特（Porteous Wood）表示：「這筆錢可以聘請一千三百位護士，或超過二千六百位清潔工。我相信英國大部分人都寧願醫院裡有多些護士和清潔人員，而不是多幾個神父、牧師、拉比或伊瑪目。」...
